Arcanum Development provides consultation services for our clients to support their efforts of reorganizing their processes, document flows and knowledge flow.
Arcanum Development has processed nearly 50.000 pages of legal documentation and related texts in the field of intellectual property for the World Intellectual Property Organization and for the European Patent Office. During this work we have organized the offshore data preparation and assured the quality of data with further proofing, scanned and typed text in three languages, standardized document formats coming from various sources, from several countries, formatted and hyperlinked the documents and finally we have converted the data to SGML, Folio, PDF and HTML.
Recently we have worked out a document conversion technology which allows the automatic hyperlinking and conversion of well-made Word documents to ready HTML pages using XML/XSL technology.
Our company developed specialized search and retrieval software for CD publications supporting multiple languages, multiple versions of the same document, hierarchical and full-text browsing, hyperlinks, language links and version links, full-text search and further special features that allow more punctual searching in mid-size hierarchically structured databases. This engine was used in several products.
The SGML data sources created for the publications served a perfect base for the creation of HTML pages for these databases. As self-initiated projects we have created very punctual XML representations of our data.
The administrative tool used to update one of the worlds’ biggest knowledge bases, the International Patent Classification, was also created by our company. During this work we have built a multi-user, workflow-based, bilingual search-retrieval editorial system for WIPO. Based on the accumulated expertise and technology we have analysed further patent classifications, the US Patent Classifications and the European Patent Classifications, created concordances, comparisons, error checking and reports for the European Patent Office.
To aid the national publication and use of these Classifications, we have created a Translation Tool, which is currently used for the Nice and Locarno Classifications in 5 countries, and its counterpart, the Publication Tool. Using this and similar tools, Arcanum Development provided master pages for the printing of the International Patent Classification and the Nice, Vienna and Locarno Classifications in 11 languages, resulting in nearly 10,000 printed pages.
To extend our activities in the field of intellectual property, we have started further self-initiated projects based on the needs found during these years working for the national Intellectual Property Offices, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the European Patent Office.
We have created a very detailed Intellectual Property Glossary, which provides nearly 3000 terms of intellectual property in four languages in computer-searchable form. We have proofed the occurrences of these terms using internet robots.
The Glossary was first used in the collection of Intellectual Property-related Legal Texts and Legal Information available on the Internet. We have collected 6000 titles and 3000 live addresses of 120 countries.
During our activities in the field of patent- and trademark classifications we have created a knowledge base methodology, which is based on the topic map technology.
The storage and maintenance of our documents demanded a document management environment, which is currently being developed (June 2001).
