Unseasonable Weather in Hungary

In the middle of the last century, meteorological observations were being made in Hungary at many locations – mostly sporadically. After the foundation of the Royal Hungarian National Meteorological and Geomagnetism Institute (after 1870), the meteorological station network was established, and the first measurements were commenced. This facilitated the analysis of the body of temperature and pluviometric data collected since 1881, and the selection of climatic extremes and unusual phenomena from that data. However, it is not only the body of meteorological data which speaks about unusual meteorological events, but old newspapers, archive materials and chronicles do as well. These have been included in the text.
