Haggard (ejtsd: heggerd) Henrik Rider, angol regényiró, szül. Beadenhamban (Norfolk) 1856 jun. 22. Felváltva Kensingtonban és Bungayban él. Hosszabb időn át tartózkodott Angliának afrikai gyarmatain. Első műve: Cetywayo and his white neighbours (London 1832) volt, melyre 1884. Dawn c. regénye következett. Nevezetessé King Solomon's mines (1886) c. műve tette; egyéb regényei: She, a history of adventure (1887), The witch's head (1885); Cleopatra (1889); Eric Brighteyes (1891); nada, The Lily (1892); Montezuma's daughter (1893) stb.
