Haliburton
Haliburton (ejtsd: hellibört'n) Tamás Chandler, anglo-amerikai iró, szül. Windsorban (Uj-Skócia) 1797., megh. Ysleworthban (Middlesex, Anglia) 1865 aug. 27. 1842. biró lett Halifaxban, majd mint az amerikai követség attachéja Angliába ment, ahol aztán képviselő volt 1859-65. Sam Slick álnév alatt irta: The Clockmaker, or the sayings and doings of Sam Slick of Slickville (a yankee szatirálása, 1837-40., 3 köt., uj kiad. 1870) c. művét. Ezt követték: The attaché (uj kiad. 1846., 4 köt., az angol társadalom humoros rajza); An historical and statistical account of Nova Scotia (1828-39); The old judge or life in a colony (1839); Rule and misrule of the English in America (1851, 2 köt. ); Traits of American humor (1852, 3 köt.); Nature and human nature (1855, 2 köt., uj kiad. 1859); Sam Slick's wise saws and modern instances (1859); Letter-Bag of the Great Western (1839).
