17 Feb. The Central Committee session of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party in Hungary declares that socialist production relations are dominant in the country.
23-24 Feb. A. Novotny, president of Czechoslovakia and first secretary of the Communist Party, holds talks in Budapest.
March Publication of Új Írás (New Writing), a liter-ary and critical magazine.
28-31 July Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah holds talks in Budapest.
15-27 Aug. At the head of Hungarian delegation, head of government Ferenc Münnich visits Indo-nesia and India. On 23 Aug. a Hungarian-Indone-sian agreement on friendship and cooperation is signed.
19-22 Aug. Yuri Gagarin in Hungary.
1-7 Sept. Gheorge Gheorghui-Dej, president of the Romanian Council of Ministers, visits Hungary.
12 Sept The Central Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party relieves Jenő Fock and Károly Kiss from their posts as secretaries of the Central Committee. Their successors: Sándor Gáspár and Dezső Nemes.
13 Sept. The Presidential Council brings a resolu-tion on the appointment of János Kádár as prime minister and the modification of the government: deputy prime ministers of the Council of Ministers: Antal Apró, Gyula Kállai, Béla Biszku and Jenő Fock. Minister of state: Ferenc Münnich
14 Sept. The Young Communist League Central Committee meeting elects Árpád Pullai as first secretary in place of Zoltán Komócsin.
7-12 Oct. Parliament adopts decree 2/1961 about the educational system.
