Arcanum Newspapers subscriber as an individual

Pays an individual user subscription fee for the service, in exchange for which they are entitled to:

use the system without restrictions from any computer
share their password with people living in the same household (however, only one user can access the system with one password at a time)
search in the database, view the data
download a maximum of 50 pages at a time - up to a maximum of 5,000 pages per day - store them on their own computer, print them
use the saved contents as illustrations with the appropriate quotations in the works intended for the public. The use of the saved content as illustrations may not extend to the use of complete works.

The official form of reference to the database is: newspapers.arcanum.com and/or Arcanum Newspapers

The subscription itself does not automatically include the copyright holder’s license to use the works. If the User wishes to use the copyrighted works beyond the limits of free use as defined by copyright law, they are obliged to obtain a license from the copyright holder. Arcanum excludes all liability for any copyright infringement committed by the User.

The subscriber is not entitled to:

to share their password with a third party. If it becomes known to the third party, it is obliged to take measures to change it
to use any bot, robot, script or other automated solution that enables automatic downloading from the database
o initiate more than one subscription within a single subscription period, or to register under a false name or with incorrect data
to pay the subscription fee with a payment instrument (e.g. bank card) registered in the name of another person
to disclose or otherwise make available the stored data to any third party, in particular by uploading it to an internet platform accessible by others;
to use the stored data for commercial purposes. In case of intended commercial use, a separate agreement must be concluded with Arcanum – please contact us for this purpose.
to download a substantial part of the database, in particular all issues of a title (journal, newspaper) or an entire volume

If the subscriber violates these Terms and Conditions, Arcanum shall be entitled to suspend the subscriber’s account for 7 days. During the 7-day suspension period, the subscriber may file a complaint regarding the suspension of their account by sending an email to contact@arcanum.com. Arcanum shall investigate the complaint within 3 days and inform the subscriber of the outcome. If the subscriber does not file a complaint within the 7-day suspension period, or if the complaint is found to be unfounded, Arcanum shall delete the subscriber’s account. In such case, the subscription fee already paid for the ongoing subscription period shall not be refunded.

Renewal and Cancellation Terms

Subscriptions

There are various payment and subscription options available for using the Services. These options can be found in the individual Services and may change from time to time. Once you register for a free trial or your initial payment is processed, your subscription has begun, and you can immediately access the relevant Service.

1. Automatic Renewals of Subscriptions. Unless otherwise noted in the terms of your offer, subscriptions automatically renew, except for gift subscriptions. This means that once you become a subscribing member, your subscription will automatically renew based on the subscription program you chose (e.g. semiannually, monthly, etc.). Unless you are notified otherwise, you will be charged the rate stated at the time of purchase at the beginning of the billing term of your subscription via the billing method you have provided to us. Please ensure that your billing information is correct to prevent an interruption in your subscription.

Prices and terms for subscriptions may change at any time. The price and terms in place when you made your initial purchase or when your subscription last renewed will stay in effect for the duration of that subscription period, but new prices and terms may apply to renewals or new subscriptions. Arcanum shall notify the Subscriber of any changes to the price or terms no later than 30 days prior to the expiry of the subscription, before such changes take effect.Arcanum shall notify the Subscriber upon the expiry of the subscription, informing them of the expiry and the renewal of the subscription, except in the case of subscriptions renewed on a monthly basis.

If you do not want to renew your subscription under these new prices or terms, you should cancel your subscription as described below.

2. Subscription Cancellations and Refunds. You may cancel your Arcanum subscription by logging into your My Account page or by contacting us. Unless otherwise stated in the terms of your subscription, the following terms will apply:

Free trial, if available: You can try the Service before starting a paid subscription. If you register for a free trial, you may cancel at any time before the end of the free trial period and incur no charge. If you do not cancel by that time, your paid subscription will start once your free trial period ends. One free trial per user. After a free trial ends and you are charged for your subscription, no refunds will be issued.

Subscriptions Billed Upfront:
If you cancel Your subscription before the end of your subscription period, you are not eligible for a refund (this does not affect your statutory rights), but you will retain access to the relevant Services for the remainder of your subscription period, after which your subscription will be cancelled. If you do not cancel your subscription within your subscription period, we will renew your subscription for additional terms equivalent in length to your current subscription (unless you are notified otherwise), until you cancel. After your subscription renews, you are not eligible for any refunds. Refunds are not based on account usage.

Arcanum Newspapers subscriber as an institution

public collections, educational institutions, other legal entities

Contracts with institutional subscribers shall be concluded with the following variations:

based on a unique contract and quotation
authentication based on IP address
authentication based on eduID for members in the case of a higher education institution
payment is made by bank transfer
In addition to IP address access, password access may also be associated with the subscription according to individual agreement, which can only be shared among employees of the institution
search in the database, view the data
each user may download up to a maximum of 50 pages at a time, which may then be stored on their own computer and printed.
institution-wide daily download limit, upon reaching which the ability to download shall be suspended until the following day. The institution shall have the right and responsibility to determine and monitor the daily download limits of its own users. Upon request and by separate agreement, Arcanum shall provide the institution with information on the number of pages downloaded per day from each IP address.
use the downloaded content as illustrations with appropriate quotations in the works intended for the public.
The subscription itself does not automatically grant a license from the copyright holder to use the works. Should the Subscriber wish to use the copyrighted works beyond the scope of free use as defined by copyright law, they shall be required to obtain a license from the copyright holder. Arcanum hereby disclaims all liability for any copyright infringement committed by the Subscriber.

For matters not regulated in these Terms, the provisions of Hungarian law shall govern, in particular Act V of 2013 on the Civil Code and Act LXXVI of 1999 on Copyright.
