94György Domokos: THE PROBLEMS OF SIEGE TECHNIC OF THE RECAPTURE OF BUDA
Summary
The recapture of Buda is one of the decisive events of the war of liberation against the Turks. This study proves that the siege technic of the Turkish and Imperial armies was in transition in the time of the aforementioned war: from the old methods to the new, originating in the activity of Vauban. The infantry completed and used the system of parallels in full extent but the arrangement of the redoutes and batteries reflected the old ways. Because of the special terrain there was no possibility to arrange the artillery to fulfill the requirements of the indirect fire. These shortcomings, together with the difficulties wich came from the natural features around the castle, the firm resistance of the defenders and the personal disagreements within the high command of the allied Christian army can explain why could last the siege for 75 days of severe fights before the liberation of the old capital of the Hungarian kings.
