1) (ritkán) sajátl. viszszaborzad, irtózik, iszonyodik valamitől, a re aliqua v. aliquem.
2) sajátlanul: a) személyről, idegenkedik, neheztel (-ra, -re), semmit, se akar tudni valamiről, nincs kedve (-hoz, -hez), nincs ínyére, a nuptiis; animus ejus a. ab illa causa; a. a scribendo, nincs kedve irni. b) tárgyról, különbözik, nem talál, nem egyezik, nem hangzik öszsze, eltér, ellenkezik: temeritas tanta ut non a. ab insania; oratio haec a. a persona hominis gravissimi, a sensibus nostris, ellenkezik; tul. esettel is: mos abhorrens huic tam pacatae profectioni; orationes inter se abhorrentes, egymással ellenkezők; önállólag: lacrimae abhorrentes, időhez és helyhez nem illő = idétlen, helytelen.
