Gaisford
Gaisford (ejtsd: geszford) Tamás, angol filologus, született Jfordban 1779 dec. 22., megh. Oxfordban 1855 jun. 2. 1811. az oxfordi egyetemen a görög nyelv tanára. 1847. a Bodleiani könyvtár igazgatója lett. Sok, többnyire görög régi irót adott ki, igy Euripides Hecubáját, Orestesét (1809-ben); Hephaistion Encheiridionját, Proklus Chrestomatiáját (Oxford 1810); Stobäus Florilegiumát (Oxford 1822); Herodot, Hierokles stb. munkáit s nehány egyházi atyát; a latin irókon kivül Cicero Tusculanait (Oxford 1805) és a Scriptores Latini rei metricae-t (u. o. 1837).
