Costum, costus, κοστον, κοστος alatt egy indiai cserjének a gyökere értendő, mely kellemes illatot terjesztett. Hor. od. III, 1, 44 előfordul Achaemenium costum és Hor. epod. 13, 8 Achaemenio perfundi nardo, hol a nardus szintén illatszert jelent. Nardus vagy nardum egy indiai növény levelét, illetőleg a levélből nyert illatos olajat jelenti; együtt véve a costum és nardum rendesen radix et folium név alatt fordulnak elő. PR. J.
