81. MAGYARBÉNYE

1200 körül Gyula fiának, Buának nevéből (1046) származtatják nevét. (Györffy: Az Árpád-kori. III. 549.) 1346-ban Benye, 1431-ben Benyebua, 1474-ben Benye, 1587-ben Beonye formában fordul elő. (Györffy: i.h.; C. Suciu: Dicţionar istoric.)

1346-ban Szent Imre tiszteletére szentelt kápolnája van: „capella in hon. Bemerici foret constructa”. (Györffy: i.h.) 1766-ban új templomot építenek, amely ma is áll.

A XVIII. században református anyaegyház (Benkő J.: Transsilvania. II. 183.), e század elején pedig református filia, majd újra anyaegyház. (Helységnévtár. 1913.)
