Kassa as the centre of the Generalate of Upper Hungary owned a great significance in the border fortress system against the Ottomans from the middle of the 16th century. One of the most important marks of it is the formation of the Royal Armoury. The inventories are essential documents of the life of the Armoury. These sources summarise the number canons, handguns, ammunition, basic materials and tools for the production and reparation of weapons. This analysis made on the basis of these sources indicates, that Kassa Armoury went trough immense development in the 16-17th centuries, from the town buildings that simply stored the weapons to the multifunctional military workshop. A number of signs of this process can be observed: the Armoury was increased with repairing shops, store houses and powder mill; the weapons of the stock became more modern, the amount and the number of types of basic materials, tools and crafts practized in the workshops grew.
The analysis of the Kassa consciptions newly presented, how great the significance of these inventories is concerning the research of the border fortress system in general. With the use of them one can get a comprehensive sight on the armament and equipment of the border fortresses and on their everyday life in most cases. The translation and interpretation of the German and/or Latin names of the tools of the contemporary life is one of the great problems of the research work, so only the full elaboration of these sources can help in better understanding.
